Champion Tamoretta Tailormade

I first started breeding Italian Greyhounds in 1969 and in the February of that year the dam of Tailormade, Tamoretta Loveing Gladness was born.

Seven years later in April on 1976 Tailormade was born. Her dam Loveing Gladness was a fawn and white bitch and her sire Tamoretta Tanzaro was an all blue dog with my imported Sobers ( Sweden ) bloodlines behind him.

Tailormade was one of two blue and white bitches her sister Ch Tamoretta Team Spirit was exported to the Mrs. McDonald in Canada .

From very early on it became obvious that Tailormade was very a promising show prospect and in the autumn of 1976 she won many of her puppy classes. Her first major win was the Junior class at Crufts and then the RCC from the puppy class at Manchester in 1977.

Her first CC came from Bobby James at Blackpool aged just 14 months.

Bobby James a 'Northerner' had a true dog man's eye for a good 'un.He judged with high principles and to him construction was the key to a good dog. He had a saying that he frequently employed "It all stems from the shoulder".

Comments from other judges were that Tailormade would probably get ' made up 'and that she might even be destined for higher things.

I decided to mate her in June 1977, which was considered by some to be a mistake at the time, as she was winning so well. I however, felt that she should have her first litter early rather than in middle age! It also enabled me to see what quality she would produce in her offspring. In her first litter she produced the lovely blue dog and future influential sire, Ch Tamoretta Tidalwave of Turigner as well as three other male puppies by Champion Tentyra Senusret.

Tailormade returned to the ring at Crufts 1978 and was awarded her second CC by breed specialist Dr Sylvia Kershaw.

At the Italian Greyhound Club Show she was B.I.S. under Mrs. Peggy Frazer ( Tentyra ).

Herbert Essan gave Tailormade her Crown at Manchester that same year. Jimmy Currie , who short listed her in the toy group commented " One of the daintiest I.G.s that I have seen for a long time, scoring in size and movement ".When she completed her title she became my third Champion the first being Ch Tamoretta My Meridian who was followed by Champion Tamoretta Titanessa.

The first group that she won was under the great all rounder Bill Siggers at Birmingham which was held at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire. He thought her movement impeccable.

The most revered group for me however was that won at Southern Counties in 1978.

Molly Garrish, doyen of the breed, to which she contributed so much with the Fleeting Italian Greyhounds, was the judge of the breed. Her seedless work as secretary and breed note contributor over many years and of course her capacity as a judge put her on top of my list of opinions that I wanted.

Champion Tailormade was on top form that day and comments from Molly were " this well known blue/white trim bitch, is now so finished in presentation and completely collected in movement that she must take some beating". This was her eight CC and BOB.

Another great judge was Catherine Sutton who was the toy group judge. She wrote ' This was a most pleasing group but by 4.30 pm most of the little people were feeling the heat. The finalists were the Italian and the Papillon Champion Gerlil Rhett Butler who is a grand dog of great quality and type but he could not quite match the immaculate performance of the Italian Greyhound Tamoretta Tailormade> This is one of the nicest of this breed that I have had the pleasure to judge for a very long time. She is everything that the standard demands as well as being essentially feminine. The sun shone on her and she loved it and put up a faultless performance. Congratulations to Tailormade - she is aptly named'.

Her history making success of taking BIS at Windsor also came in 1978. The breed judge was Henry Glover and this is his critique.

Ch T Tailormade - this is one of the most beautiful little, Italian Greyhounds that I have seen for a while, she is elegant in the extreme, wonderfully sound and quite typical of the breed. I had not seen her before but she pleased me greatly to take the bitch challenge certificate and BOB. It is interesting to note that her son Tamoretta Tidalwave of Turigner, won Junior Dog on the same day.'

The group as usual, contained many top specimens of other toy breeds and in spite of the freezing cold weather and rain Tailormade won the group and BIS under Herbert Essam.

She also took the toy groups at Leicester Championship Show- judge Molly Grocott ( New Zealand ).This from AVNSC. And at Blackpool - judge Bob Flavell

CRUFTS 1980

The Caption in Dog World read ' Tailormade for the Top' and it was rumoured that Harry Glover ( who gave her here title at Windsor ) and was the BIS judge was going to give her top spot. Luckily I knew nothing of this rumour which was just as well!

The Crufts breed judge Majory Barnard ( Noways ) was no stranger to the big ring and Crufts having won BIS wither Bulldog, gave Tailormade BOB and she wrote ' Exquisite Blue/white, fine boned and elegant bitch, super temperament and movement.

Catherine Sutton, the group judge wrote ' Was looking just right for body condition and coat and she put up a great performance under the lights. Immaculate movement for this breed and so right for type and of course full of quality and femininity. As I have said before she is so aptly named abs it was a pleasure to give the group to her.

Tailormade was BIS at the Italian Greyhound Club from the Veteran Class under Pamela Cross- Stern aged 9 years.

There are many other amazing achievements in Tailormade's long and spectacular career whose BIS and group wins are so far unmatched by any other IG.

Tamoretta Time after Time ( Hogan ) was the sire of 6 Champions and the son of Tailormade and a litter brother to Champion Tamoretta That's Talent.

My own newest Champions Ch Hanjy Hilighted at Shirnevina and Ch Hanjy Homecoming to Shirnevina are great grandchildren of Ch Tamoretta Tailormade.

It is perhaps the sign of a truly great champion that they leave their mark upon their breed. Certainly this is true of Betsy, many of today's Champions and CC winners being her descendants including her grandson Ch Rilloby One Man Band ( Top IG 1990 and Top Stud or Sire 5 times in a row ) through his sire Tamoretta Tidalwave of Turigner and also her great grandson Rilloby Rythm and Blues, current Top Stud Dog.
